First Steps to Learning Irish Gaelic |

| Irish is a Goidelic language of the Indo-European language family, originating in Ireland and historically spoken by the Irish people. Irish is now only spoken natively by a small minority of the Irish population but also plays an important symbolic role in the life of the Irish state, and is used across the country in a variety of media, personal contexts and social situations. The estimated number of speakers is 355,000 fluent or native speakers, 600,000 everyday speakers and 2 million with some knowledge. First Steps to Learning Irish Gaelic aims to provide a stepped opportunity for improving language skills; it provides the four communicative skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing. |
